Inspiring Elementary Engineering

Inspiring Elementary Engineering (IE2) is a discovery-based, learning program in which students use critical and creative thinking skills to solve challenges through the Engineering Design Process.  The goal of the program is to foster a lifelong curiosity of learning in the field of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.

Throughout the IE2 program, students are engaged in a wide range of standards-based, hands-on learning experiences. Each lesson is centered around the Engineering Design Process, which contains underlying principles within the Scientific Method.

There is a 3-year curriculum rotation: Year 1-Force and Motion, Year 2: Power and Energy, and Year 3: Inventions and Innovations. With a total of 12 units in the IE2 curriculum, each school implements the program however it deems necessary to meet the needs of the students to support their school's core curriculum.

The IE2 name was derived from a district aspiration to motivate and inspire students to continue their interest in the engineering profession, hence Manatee County’s long-term goal of the program is to encourage our children to further their education in one of our premier engineering programs found in most of our middle and high schools.
